Consistency In Leadership

Abstract

Problem: What makes a leader effective, and why do teams become frustrated with their leads?

Approach: Tim Cain draws on his experience leading game development teams (including Fallout) to explain why consistency is the foundational trait of good leadership.

Findings: Inconsistent decision-making — or even the perception of inconsistency — destroys team trust. Leaders must be predictable, explain their reasoning, and adapt their communication style to individual team members while maintaining consistent principles.

Key insight: Your team needs to be able to predict how you'll react. If they can't, they'll stop approaching you — and you'll fail as a leader.
